Separate special processing items from the rest of the laundry.
If special processing items can be washed in the washer, it's helpful to place them in a zippered mesh bag in order to keep track of these items and include them in the appropriate load of laundry.
Sort remaining items into loads by color, fabric type and/or preferred wash cycle.
This would also be a good time to treat stains and fasten buttons, snaps, and zippers.
Choose a wash cycle based on client’s preference. If no preference has been indicated, it's up to you to choose the most appropriate cycle for each load.
It's recommended to use detergent type (regular, unscented, hypoallergenic, etc.) based on client preference, if applicable. Keep track of the # of loads if you're participating in the Persil program.
Supplement with other products (oxygen bleach or other laundry boosters) as necessary.
You can lay flat or hang any items the client would like air dried.
For items dried in the dryer, choose the setting based on client’s preference.
If no preference has been indicated, choose the most appropriate setting for each load.
Based on client’s preference, you can use a dryer sheet, dryer balls, etc. as needed.
Once items are completely dry, it's best to fold, hang and bag items so they’re protected from dust, debris, etc. during transport and drop off.
Clearly, processing laundry with the utmost care is the absolute foundation of what we offer our clients. While there are other important aspects of our work, ultimately the service you provide boils down to how well you launder.
Processing laundry refers to the entire cleaning process; including washing, drying, and continues through packaging (i.e. folding, hanging and bagging items). Processing also includes stain treatment, pre-soaking, hand washing, air drying, as well as add-on services such as ironing or steaming.
Here’s an example of how many Providers approach and develop their own laundry cleaning process, from start to finish. Take this recommended plan of action and make it your own. The most important thing is to master your preferred process and deliver consistent results to each client
